LAW (15 credits)
The aim of this area is to create awareness and interest in legal
systems, its role and its function both in society and in the
world of business. To these ends, emphasis is placed throughout
the course on current legal issues.
Business Law I (5 credits)
What is law? Sources of law. Legal personnel. The Courts. General
Principles of Law. Common Law and Civil Law systems.
Business Law II (5 credits)
Contracts, terms, exclusions clauses and sale of goods. Formation
of a registered company in Europe (UK and Spain). Responsibilities
of Directors, Managers and shareholders.
International Business Law (5 credits)
Introduction to international and comparative law, state responsibility
and environmental regulation, dispute settlement, the multinational
enterprise, foreign investment laws and codes, money and banking
law, international trade law, the general agreement on trade in
services, intellectual property, united nations convention on
contracts for the international sale of goods (cisg), transportation,
financing foreign trade, purposes of taxation.

MANAGEMENT (100 credits)
This unit draws upon and integrates a range of business disciplines
in examining the theory and practice of management.
Management (10 credits)
Models of organisation. Planning, staffing, leading and controlling.
Management by objectives. Change and Crisis Management. Motivation
and leadership.
Developing Management Skills (5 credits)
Students will develop current management theories and skills which
will include presentations, business negotiation, and communication
within the organisation
Sociology & Cultures (10 credits)
Sociology applied to business. Importance of groups and organisations
in the modern society.
Strategic Management (10 credits)
This unit acts as the final application of all other units:
- Production
- Management
- Marketing
- Finance
- Human Resources
And covers:
- Business environment
- Internal analysis
- Strategic process
- Implementation of strategy in day to day operations
Operations Management (15 credits)
This module will help students understand strategic operational
management, logistics, supply chain management, total quality
management as well as Value Chain Management
Project Management (20 credits)
Students are given a project and they are required to demonstrate
how they can provide new insights into the day-to-day operations
of the organisations. They must explain: roles, responsibilities,
procedures, contracts, techniques and types of software used by
a project manager. Building teams, problem solving and decision-making.
Effective communication within a team.
Personel Management (10 credits)
Students are given a project and they are required to demonstrate
how they can provide new insights into the day-to-day operations

An advanced course on leadership will generate the student's interest

MARKETING (35 credits)
The overall aim of the unit is to enable students to acquire expertise
in applying marketing techniques to national and international
scenarios.
Introduction to Marketing (5 credits)
Provides a basic understanding of marketing tools and the marketing
mix: product development, branding, promotion, pricing and distribution.
Research Methods (5 credits)
The relation between Marketing Research and Marketing Decision
Making. Qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques. Structure
of MR department. The research process, Data processing and analysis.
Use of statistical packages.
Strategic Brand Management (10 credits)
The importance of branding, approaches to segmentation. Life cycles.
Product identification. Positioning and new product development.
Launching and branding of products. More than 20 cases are analysed
and discussed in class.
Principles of Advertising (5 credits)
The aim of this unit is to give the student an understanding of
the elements of the marketing communication mix. Areas covered
include advertising and ethics, advertising design and creation.
Media and communication.
Planning Media & Research (5 credits)
Introduction to global communications in organisations. Students
will analyse different media alternatives including television,
print and internet
Corporate Communication (5 credits)
Group behaviour, internal and external communications, press relations.
Students will analyse the communication process within multinational
organisations through the analysis of recent case studies

General Accounting (5 credits)
Emphasises the procedures and practises of inventory methods and
end of the year adjustments. Accountability related to:

Cost Accounting (5 credits)
Manufacturing accounting. Different cost systems. Cost analysis.
Production and Standard cost. Budgeting and standard costs.

The analysis of 15 case discussions into different types of accounting
issues problems will be covered in class.

FINANCE (40 credits)
Introduction to Finance (5 credits)
Issues related to the value of money. Nominal and effective interest
rates. Use of financial tables to solve problems. Liabilities
in the balance sheet.
Finance I (5 credits)
Different methods are compared in order to find the most efficient
financing techniques. Cash management. Cost of new products. Replacement
of old products.
Finance II (5 credits)
Analysis of financial ratios and their influence on the decision
making process. More than 20 companies will be analysed following
a financial methodology.
International Finance (15 credits)
Financial statements in Spain, Europe and USA. Exchange rates
and forecasting. The foreign exchange markets. International capital
markets. Mergers and acquisitions. Dividend policy and financial
control in multinational companies.
Corporate Finance (10 credits)
Holding companies and their role in financial markets. The Financial
reporting procedures of these companies.

ECONOMICS (20 credits)
This area draws on the discipline of Economics as a science. It
aims to provide theoretical and conceptual perspective affecting
economy as a whole (Macroeconomics) and particular aspects applied
to organisations (Microeconomics).
Microeconomics (5 credits)
EThe unit illustrates and analyses consumer behaviour, demand,
elasticity, and consumer surplus. Competition, monopolies, models
of oligopolies, factors of production and labour. Economic welfare
is discussed using practical cases.
Macroeconomics (5 credits)
The unit provides the basic elements to understand the current
economic situation. National income, business cycles, fiscal policies,
nature of money, and monetary policies are studied.
International Economics (5 credits)
Similarities and differences between various economic development
models and their relevance to Spain. The importance of social
and political factors in economic development. The appreciation
that contemporary events can only be understood by analysing past
and present institutional structures
Mathematics & Statistics for economics & Business (5 credits)
During the first year students will study basic statistics and
mathematical skills which can be applied across various subject
areas.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS (15 credits)
Over three years, students will develop their capacity to effectively
understand basic computer technology and its applications for

LANGUAGES
The official language at ESEI is English. The other language options
available are French and SPANISH. These 2 languages are optional.
Instead of International and Corporate Finance in the second and
third BBA the student has the option to choose languages. On successful
completion of exams students will receive 20 credits.

ESEI provides some courses for those students who need additional
help with their English
